waste not, want knot
‘Textiles hold a rich history, often residing at the intersection of function and beauty. They serve as a valuable source of warmth, comfort, and shelter. Even more intimate than blankets or clothes we wear on our backs, textiles also provide an essential means for storytelling, archiving, and community. Knots are a prime example of the versatility of textiles, with their vast array of uses. From tactical knots used to prepare boats for sea to the simple yet elegant french knot used for decoration, all require specific skills and technique.
With the rise of consumerism and fast fashion, textiles have a stronger association with waste and hyper-consumption. We wanted to challenge ourselves to use up accumulated scraps from past projects to make something new. Collaborating allowed us to swap materials, and in a way, recontextualize the stories that came with them. Also shared were colors, ideas, conversations, encouragement, even meals – things not uncommon to go hand in hand with textiles. This body of work highlights both the functional and decorative qualities of textiles by using knot making, weaving, and sewing to create abstract forms that mirror traditional textile processes.’

sad & at home because i'm sad & at home
“A musing on the cyclical nature of things.
Physical markings of loops represent abstract thoughts caught on repeat. A spiral drawn replicates the mind’s ability to head in a downward motion.
The action of making becomes a form of emotional processing: a meditation, each mark and each choice (texture, color, line) becomes a thought drawn out, quite literally. Thus one informs the other, another continuous cycle.”

self
“A self portraits series attempting to understand identity throughout time, serving as a record to changes. Rather than portraying the physical self as a whole, pieces & perceptions of identity are captured. In this way, they extend beyond a single version self at a given moment, rather a cumulation of identity.”
